Jan 19, 2003nbsp018332I have used MEK to thin contact cement. Nasty stuff though. They also sell contact cement thinner at the Big Box home improvement places. I have not tried it, but I do know people who have. this is thinner NOT cleaner. I use contact cement to attach clear mylar to my very noisy very slimey F2D control-line combat models.

May 04, 2019nbsp018332i use barge all purpose cement to make important joints on my resin freight car models. im accustomed to the barge contact cement properties and how it handles. ive found barge cement stocked with the leather working materials at hobby lobby but i prefer to purchase it from a local shoe repair or leather goods store.
The principle with all contact cements is the same apply a thin layer to both sides, allow it to dry for a minute until its slightly tacky and then press and hold both sides together. clamps help to distribute the pressure. rubber cement, a weak contact cement, is good for temporarily affixing templates to handle blocks or bar stock.

Barge all-purpose cement is a neoprene-based adhesive that creates a flexible, waterproof, and longlasting connection. it is an excellent option for most leather-base projects. neoprene is a synthetic rubber that maintains its flexibility in a variety of temperatures. contact cement can also handle continuous exposure to moisture.
Barge rubber cement is the commonly used glue used by shoe repair shops and works well on felt soles. ive found that gorilla glue works very well and has the bonus of needing moisture to set, so works with wet felts and boots. its only drawbacks are that its somewhat stiffer than barge and also foams and expands, so you dont want to use too ...
Jul 04, 2012nbsp018332i use barge contact cement and barge thinner exclusively, and because i use quite a lot i buy in gallon lots. many years ago i bit the bullet and bought one of those quothigh-pricedquot teflon glue pots. one of my best investments and decision ever. i use my cement probably much thinner than everyone else, and i can mix it right in the glue pot.
I have found barge at ace hardware near my house, and i have used it to to practice when i was learning to make a turnout. but it was stringy. i have heard that you can thin it with mek. but that can get a little quotfumy.quot plio bond works very well with the fast trak ties that i have built turnouts with, i guess it could work with cvt as well.

Dec 18, 2013nbsp018332i have a 12 a gallon thats thickened a bit and need to thin it down, so i can use it. i think ive tried acetone and lacquer thinner in the past, but it didnt work as it wouldnt mix in with the contact cement. im not looking for quotdapquot contact cement thinner as it would be a pain to find.
Barge all purpose thinner is made especially for all purpose type cements e.g. barge or master all purpose cement. not intended for celluloid cement. thick, stubborn cement can be thinned to desired consistency. additionally, thinner can be used to clean your brush or to help remove parts bonded with all purpose cement.
Barge cement probably has enough volitility to make air shipment to australia problematic. mek alone would not stick to the cannon brass walkways so cannot be used alone as a solvent to attach these parts to plastic diesels. the mek is used to thin the barge cement and probably increase the solvency of the barge cement into the plastic.
I wouldnt worry to much about trying to re-thin the cement, just bin it and get a fresh tin, your expense here is very trivial, 5, i buy them in 250ml containers and get about 34 use of the can before i have to bin the rest, and as most people know a 250ml container glues a lot of cork.

Apr 01, 2018nbsp018332allow the rubber cement to dry, a process that should just take a minute. the rubber cement should go from clear to cloudy as this happens. you can hasten this step by blowing on the glue. apply the patch most of the time, the patches that come in a pre-made kit will have a thin foil backing which you will need to remove to expose the adhesive ...
Fiber cement siding installation. fiber cement cladding is a very heavy product. it takes two people to carry the uncut sheets. it is also thin and fragile and is prone to chipping and breakage if abused. installation also requires two people, one to hold the material and the other to fasten it in place.
